Here's a then new for U.S., 2008 BMW 135i. It's smaller than a 3-series BMW and only comes in a coupe and convertible. This car has a 3 liter Inline-6 cylinder, twin-turbocharged, 300 hp engine. It gives outstanding performance, 0 - 60 in 5.1 seconds.
The 2009 pictures look the same. I haven't test driven it. I drove the 2009 BMW 128i, it has the same 3L 6, minus the turbocharging. The 135i has a MSRP of $40,375, outfitted the way I want it, M Sport Package, Leather, and Ipod adapter. It's dealer invoice cost is $37,175. I'd offer $37,500.
Update: I got to drive an automatic 135i at my local dealer. This was in mostly heavy rush hour traffic and some street driving. The couple times I was able to accelerate, the engine provided good power and torque from low and medium speeds. There was a definite difference between it and the 128i I drove the previous week. I was impressed by it's drive. I sat in the standard seats in black leatherette. The sport seats are so much better, with great lateral support. The leatherette felt more vinyl than leather, but looked decent. If price becomes too big an issue, i'd leave off the leather.
It's not as fast as the other cars and not as great. What makes this car great for me is that it's a BMW.
